Cocktails We Love: Trinidad Sour
In our continuing series that features recipes by some of our favorite bartenders, here is a modern classic created by bartending legend, Giuseppe Gonzalez of Cleaver Las Vegas. This is a perfect example of one of those cocktails that looks bizarre when you first see the recipe, as it doesn’t look at all like it would work. Much like the Guardian Angel recipe that we posted last week, this drink uses the spirit to modify the modifier, rather than the other way around, except this drink does it on a much grander scale. Instead of using bitters to add depth to the whiskey, it uses the whiskey to help lengthen out an entire ounce of bitters! We still remember that the first time, we encountered the cocktail back in 2010, we thought that there must have been a typo. But then, once we had our first taste, it blew our minds right open. Which is why we put this drink right up there with the Penicillin in the modern pantheon of essential cocktails to know, partly because the drink itself has become a rite of passage rather than simply a cocktail.
