Since we know that a lot of folks these days are stuck at home & on a budget, we would feel like total assholes sharing difficult to make cocktails with expensive & hard to find ingredients. So, we decided to highlight a series of recipes here that we call Market Cocktails, which showcase inventive & delicious cocktails that feature only products that you could get at your local grocery store, bottleshop or bodega. It is incredible how many amazing recipes there are that feature only the simplest of ingredients, yet still manage to create wildly complex flavors. To kick things off, we are featuring a bourbon cocktail created by Zachary Gelnaw Rubin, NYC bartender & proprietor of Lion Lion. It tastes like what would happen if Dale DeGroff’s version of the Bourbon Smash & the Mint Julep went ahead and had themselves a baby. It is so easy to make that there is a good chance that you already have everything you need to make it in kitchen at this very moment. And to be honest, you would be a little crazy if you didn’t go & do that right now.

2oz Bourbon
.75oz Lemon
.75oz Maple Syrup
12-15 Mint Leaves

*if you don’t have a fridge or machine that cranks out crushed ice, just throw some ice into a kitchen towel & smash it up with a mallet. While not as fancy as a proper Lewis Bag, it works almost just as well in a pinch.
