Stirred & Boozy: Agave Edition

While we always love a good Margarita or Paloma, sometimes it is nice to have your tequila cocktails boozy & stirred, so that you can appreciate the finer qualities of the spirit without losing them behind juices or mixers. Unfortunately, you will not find as many stirred recipes from the golden age of cocktails that feature tequila as you will with whiskey or gin, but luckily today’s bartenders are making up for lost time with plenty of delicious cocktails to fill the void. As an example, the cocktail below was created by our host, Erick Castro, several years back and it is an agave twist on the Home on the Range, an obscure recipe that is big within certain circles in the industry. However, in place of rye whiskey, this cocktail uses a mixture of reposado tequila and Oaxacan mezcal, as well as two types of bitters. The result is an elegant and elevated cocktail that is ideal for those nights when you are craving tequila, yet need something that harkens to the classics.
