Charity Cocktail Competition

We just wanted to say thank you to everyone that participated in our Home Charity Cocktail Competition, in which we paired up with our friends at Goslings Rum and the Institute for Better Drinking. This one was bigger and better than we could ever have hoped for with over 120 recipe submissions from bartenders…all in just 7 days! The way that it worked was that each winner got a cash prize with an equal amount going to a charity of their choice. On top of that, we decided to choose first, second and third place winners for both USA and Canada to really make sure that were maximizing the good we could do.

There were so many drinks to go through that our line-up of all-star judges truly did have their work cut out for them. But it was all worth it, because not only were we able to giveaway $1,700 in prize money, but we were also able to raise almost $4,000 for charity. This was only our first cocktail competition at this scale, but we will no doubt be hosting more very soon, so stay tuned because we would love to have you join in the excitement.

Until then though, here are the first, second and third place recipes from each the USA and Canada for your viewing pleasure.

STRAIGHT TO THE DOME

1st Place USA

CREATED BY SOTHER TEAGUE

INGREDIENTS:
6 ounces Goslings Black Seal Rum
6 ounces apple cider
2 dash Degroff pimento bitters
2 tablespoons rum raisin iced cream
Nutmeg and pineapple wedge to garnish.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Shake the first 4 ingredients to emulsify.

2. Pour over crushed ice into a vessel for two.

3. Grate nutmeg on top and garnish with pineapple wedge and two sustainable straws.

HAMILTON

1st Place Canada

INGREDIENTS:
2oz Goslings Black Seal Rum
0.25oz PX sherry
0.25oz Branca Menta
1 dash Degroff’s Pimento bitters

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Stir all ingredients with ice.

2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass

3. Garnish with a trimmed twist

THE BERMUDA SLOOP

2nd Place USA

INGREDIENTS:

2oz  Goslings Black Seal Rum
1oz Vanilla Bean Syrup
.75oz Pineapple Juice
.5oz Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 tsp Aged Balsamic Vinegar
1 inch Coin of Ripe Banana

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Muddle banana in a cocktail shaker until it's a pureé consistency
2. Add remaining ingredients in shaker
3. Shake vigorously
4. Strain into coupe glass
5. Add three drops of the aged balsamic vinegar to the center of the drink
6. Garnish with a thin skewered banana slice

SPIKES + LACE

INGREDIENTS:

60ml Gosling Black Seal Rum 
20ml Amaro Mia Amata
10ml Manzanilla Sherry
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
2 dashes Scrappy’s Grapefruit Bitters

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Stir and strain into glass with a large block of ice. 2. Express the oil from a grapefruit zest.
3. Garnish and enjoy.

A CUP AT SUNRISE

Ingredients:
2 Oz Gosling's Gold Seal
1 Oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueuer
1/2 Oz Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueuer 
3/4 Oz Pineapple Juice
1/2 Oz Simple Syrup
1/2 Oz Lime Juice
---
Method
Add all ingredients to a shaker, add a rock of ice and shake for 15 seconds. Strain and pour over pebble or crushed ice into a double old fashioned glass
---
Garnish
Garnish with a bouquet of Mint, a cinnamon stick through an orange wheel and a fancy straw if you have one

Ingredients:
45 ml. (1.5 oz.) Goslings Black Seal⠀
7.5 ml. (0.25 oz.) Jaegermeister⠀
15 ml. (0.5 oz.) Ancho Reyes⠀
15 ml. (0.5 oz.) Amontillado sherry⠀
15 ml. (0.5 oz) Pineapple liqueur⠀

Instructions:

1. Combine all ingredients in a rocks glass and stir with ice until chilled and diluted.
2. Garnish with an expressed lime zest and grated nutmeg.
